BRING HOME THE BACON &
CHEW THE FAT

Though the wealthier people could have meat on a
regular basis, this was not true for the less economically
fortunate. However, sometimes even the middle class and poorer people could have some meat, especially pork. They felt quite special when the head of the household could afford to "BRING HOME THE BACON." It was a sign of
earning what we would call income today.

Sometimes friends would be invited to share the pork and have conversation. Pork is a fatty food, so the visitors were invited over to "CHEW THE FAT."
