The chest was opened.
What the Foster family saw, what Aaron and Beth saw, what Mr. and Mrs. Lomber saw what the sheriff and his deputies saw, was beyond their expectations. The treasure chest was filled with golden coins and precious jewels.
“This must be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars or much more,” the sheriff said in disbelief.
“We’re rich, we’re rich, we’re rich“ shouted Carrie.
“Not so fast, Carrie, “ said her father. “This treasure does not really belong to us.”
“But we found it,” Carrie whimpered.
