MABLE FRANCIS FUNGUS
In a presentation of the story to a first grade, the
children had to follow the directions of the sign--
to clap, stamp their feet, or tap their desk, along
with the rhythm of the story.
Mable Francis Fungus is a fantasy story.
Mable has a twitch, and asks her grandmother for help.
They set off on a trip and have many silly adventures.
*
They go on a journey to the river Nile.
"I'd really like to join you," said her grandma with a smile.
"
We'll eat our meal with candy canes and sail the river Nile."
....We'll sail the Nile, a little while, for just about a mile........
They play with gooky, ooky, cruddy mud and make a muddy fuddy cake.
*
They meet a mud-snowman who is ten feet tall,
and have other adventures.
*
This nonsense tale turns out to be a dream that Mable has
just before she wakes up early one morning.
"Wake up, my darling Mable, for it's later than it seems."
"Oh Mama," said the yawning child,"I've had such silly dreams."
Mable Francis Fungus is a very rhythmic story with a strong beat.
The sign is turned during the story so the children have to
pay close attention to the instructions. This activity
promotes direction skills.
