Folktales are special.

People have been telling them for a
long time.

Folktales are old stories.

We don't usually know who wrote the
stories.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF FOLKTALES?

Here are some different kinds of folktales.

1. FAIRY TALES

Fairy Tales are MAGIC stories.
Some of the people and animals
in the fairy tale are magical.

They may be

fairies,

elves

giants or

witches.

2. FABLES

Fables are stories that teach a lesson.

A sentence at the end of the story tells you what that lesson is.

A man named Aesop lived a long time ago.

He told many fables.

We call those fables, "Aesop's Fables."

Many fables have animals in them.

The animals act just like real people.
