"I Got Rhythm" was one of the best known songs in the Broadway production Girl Crazy ( music,George Gershwin, lyrics, Ira Gershwin). The musical opened at the Alvin Theater in 1930 and closed in the middle of 1931. The plot was about a young man named Danny who was sent by his family to run a ranch. Danny introduced a good deal of entertainment there. Many famous performers, such as Ginger Rogers, Ethel Merman, were in the production. The opening night orchestra pit had Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa, Glenn Miller, and Jimmy Dorsey. Another famous song from this show is "Embraceable You."
