“Mrs. Lomber, we were wondering... Where are the fig trees?” the children seemed to say at once, getting back to the subject.

 “I’ll show you.”

Mrs. Lomber took the children outside not far from a flower garden. There stood 8 fig trees that looked rather old. They certainly weren’t the tallest trees around,  but they weren’t tiny either. The trees were not bunched  one on  top of each other , but were fairly close.

“This is our family fig  tree grove, “ said Mrs. Lomber.

“Do you think one of these could be the one that the poem is talking about?” Carrie looked at the others  with a questioning expression.

"Or a tree that is in the same place as one that Captain Patch might have planted!" Aaron added.

“It might be..... but which one?”

David stared into space for a few moments, and then reminded them that the poem says, ‘Before the August setting sun.’

“I think we will have to wait for sunset to see where the sun sets. The fact that the trees are standing  west of the house, and the sun sets in the west means that it is possible.  We will see if the sun sets behind any of the trees, and if it does, that could be the one in the poem, and the starting point of this treasure hunt.”

“Great thinking, David,” said Aaron, giving his friend a broad smile. “It’s a lucky thing this trip was planned for August.”

Mrs. Lomber suggested that  since it was still morning,  and since the children had to wait until sunset,  that perhaps they would like to go for a swim.
