“Wait a minute, “ David jumped up. “Please let’s read the poem again.  It also says,

          You’ll dig and pry the secrets loose
The answers lie in Mother Goose.
           And if you aren’t too contrary,
          You may start with Mistress Mary.

“We forgot that the poem talks about the answers being in  Mother Goose. So maybe there is a nursery rhyme about someone named Mary.  Maybe that rhyme will give us the next clue."

 “I think the best thing to do now, is look at the Mother Goose book,” Aaron suggested.   Anyway, it is too late to do any digging. We can study the book and  get up early in the morning.”

Beth, Aaron, David and Carrie went up to   the two rooms they were to sleep in that week.

 They sat down on the carpet with the Mother Goose book.

CHAPTER 9:  Mistress Mary’s Message

“I think we should skim the table of contents.”David  said. “Hey, here’s one about Mary.”

“Read it  out, hurry, “ Carrie shouted.

“Will do, Carrie.
Let’s see, it’ s on page 34. It says,

 ‘ Mary had a pretty bird,
       Feathers bright and yellow;
  Slender legs, upon my word,
       He was a pretty fellow.
 The sweetest notes he always  sung,
        Which much delighted Mary;
 And near the cage she’d ever sit,
        To hear her own canary.' ”
