WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT FOLKTALES?

Folktales are special.

People have been telling them for a long time.

Folktales are old stories.

We don't usually know who wrote the stories.

WHY DID PEOPLE LIKE FOLKTALES?

1. The people had fun listening to folktales.

Long ago, most people were very poor.

They had to work very hard.

The people did not have much time for fun. There was not much they could do for fun.

Listening to folktales was a way these people could have fun.

2. The children learned about being good people.

Long ago, most poor children did not go to school.

Most poor children did not learn to read or write. Their parents did not know how to read or write.

They could not learn lessons about being good people from books.

The storytellers who told folktales told stories which helped them learn about being good.

FOLKTALES ARE STILL LIKED BY PEOPLE.
