Introducing the story

Present the title of the story .
Ask the children why they think the story is called PAT'S CAT AND CAT'S PAT.

Try to get the children to respond that Pat loves his/her cat and the cat is devoted to Pat.
They belong to each other. Children can learn that an apostrophe after a noun can mean "possession" --"belonging to."

 

INTRODUCE THE WORDS FOR CHAPTER 1:

Kit
is (short i sound)

MAKE UP SOME SENTENCES WITH THESE WORDS.

Pat said, I like Kit.

Pat's cat is Kit.
Pat likes Kit.
Kit likes Pat.

Pat said, "I like Kit."

Kit just said, "meow."

Can you think of a reason why Pat chose this name?

(Perhaps a child will say that Kit is short for kitten. A kitten is a baby cat)
