PAT'S CAT AND CAT'S PAT
A level 1 story
NOTE TO ADULT WORKING WITH THE CHILD ...
This story is phonetically based (rhyming words, common
initial consonant sounds, short/long vowel sounds) with
repeated vocabulary for sight recognition.
It is recommended that some "word work" be done before
starting the story, with review before each chapter.
This story is broken down into chapters for several reasons:
1. Chapters separate the story into "natural divisions."
Children can work on each chapter until it is mastered and
then go on to the next. If done on different days, the "Table of
Contents" can link the child directly to the chapter he or she is going to read. REVIEWING PREVIOUS CHAPTERS IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
2. The word count of this story is slightly higher than typical Level 1 stories. Chapter divisions divide the story into smaller sections with a lower word count. Emergent readers will not be overwhelmed.
3. Reading mastery depends on many factors, one of which is early success. Many young children who have older siblings often feel grown up if he or she is also reading a "chapter book.
