CHAPTER 3:

CAPTAIN PATCH

Mr. and Mrs. Lomber were the owners  of  'The Treasured Inn.' As  seniors in their middle 60s, they ran the Inn for vacationers from all over the United States, and even from some foreign countries.  Apparently, 'The Treasured Inn' and the land surrounding it had been in the Lomber family for well over 150 years.  At one time, the  Inn was the home of  a large family. But now only Mr. and Mrs. Lomber lived there.  With its 8 bedrooms, the Inn was a wonderful small business.

The morning after their arrival, David , Carrie and their friends were milling around the lobby when Mr. Lomber  started to speak to them.

“Well,” Mr. Lomber said softly to the children, “ how are you enjoying your vacation so far?”

The children did not want to hurt Mr. Lomber’s feelings.

“ It’s so beautiful here,” David replied to his question.

 “And so peaceful,” Carrie added.

“And restful," Beth said.
Aaron just shook his head in agreement.

Mr. Lomber knew that children were not in search of peace and rest, but fun and adventure. With a twinkle in his eye, he asked them if they would be interested in knowing about the pirate who roamed the area nearly 200 years ago.

 The children  were immediately interested.

“There is a legend,” continued Mr. Lomber,  “of a fierce pirate who sailed the ocean around  these parts.  His name  was Captain  Patch.”
