Of course, Grittel did not have this ability at all. But the townspeople thought it might be true. Soon all the people in town were talking about Grittel and how she could spin straw into gold.
It wasn't long before the King heard about Grittel. His servant came to him and said,
" I went into town very early today,
And here's what I heard all the townspeople say.""The Miller's sweet daughter , or so it was told,
Can spin yellow straw into glittering gold."The King stared at the servant for a moment and finally said---
"Oh no, goodness no, it's not possibly true,
It's something that nobody ever could do."But the servant insisted that this is exactly what he heard. He told the king that the whole town was talking about it.
The King then ordered that the miller's daughter be brought to the castle.
