COMMUNITY HELPERS GRADE TWO PROJECT
The second grade social studies curriculum includes a unit on community helpers/ jobs.
(The faces of the children are not displayed because I do not have parental permission slips. In any case, it might be best not to display clear, identifiable images of children on the internet for security reasons)
PROJECT 1
The children in this second grade class made a community helper / professional worker using a small wooden figure base.
This child chose to make a figure of a police officer.
The children also made signs describing their figure.
The figures and signs were placed in a styrofoam base.

Milan Trenc
was read to the class.
The children were then given an accordian-folded paper.
One side read....THE LIGHTS GO OUT AT THE MUSEUM.
THE EXHIBITS BECOME ALIVE.Children make up their own fictitious story about what would happen.
The other side of the accordian -folded paper describes the school museum.

PROJECT 4
The children decorated tote
bags. The plan was to make puppets and store them in the bags.
*
PROJECT 5
The children made puppets using paper and sticks. First they made the drawings. Then the drawings were colored with crayon or markers. The children cut out the drawings and pasted sticks on the backs.
The paper was folded into four sections which helped the children make the figures.
I am very impressed by the intelligence and creativity of the children at this school. They are delightful children with a lot of potential.
